Konya Technical University (KTÜN) has taken an important step in advancing its sustainability agenda by joining the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Network. KTÜN’s membership was formalized during the 2025 UI GreenMetric Türkiye Workshop.
Hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), the workshop brought together representatives from 37 universities in Türkiye, along with academics from Indonesia, Poland, Ethiopia, and Romania. The event aimed to strengthen knowledge sharing and collaboration in the areas of sustainable university management and the green campus vision.
The speakers included Prof. Dr. Ir. Tommy Ilyas, Expert Member of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, and Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Yıldırım, faculty member at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University and UI GreenMetric Türkiye Coordinator.
Representing Konya Technical University at the event were Dr. Ahmet Akusta and Engin Uslu from the International Ranking, Sustainability and Visibility Office. By signing the certificate of participation presented at the workshop, KTÜN officially became part of the UI GreenMetric network.
Throughout the workshop, universities shared examples of good practice in sustainability, and campus management strategies were discussed in detail in line with the UI GreenMetric criteria. Structural and operational challenges encountered by universities in data collection and management processes were also addressed, and possible solutions were explored.
The event also underlined the importance of improving access to academic publications related to sustainability. In this context, it was noted that facilitating access to academic indexes through national research support institutions such as the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and TÜBİTAK could make a positive contribution to universities’ sustainability performance.
By joining this important network, KTÜN has further strengthened its sustainability vision while also opening the door to new national and international collaborations.
